In celebration of International Day of the Girl 2024

SIRA has implemented a mentorship initiative to uplift and inspire school-going girls in arid and semi-arid regions. The program connects girls with mentors in leadership and education — fostering confidence, academic growth and life skills. Together we’re breaking barriers and building dreams.

Community Dialogue for Women in Garissa

SIRA has facilitated open, safe and inclusive community dialogues with women in Garissa to raise awareness on gender-based violence (GBV) and protect girls from female genital mutilation (FGM). These sessions aim to amplify local voices, promote survivor-centered solutions and strengthen collective efforts to end harmful practices. Together with religious leaders, health workers and youth advocates we are building a future where every girl can grow free from fear and every woman can live with dignity and respect.

Hydroponic Kitchen Gardens for Resilient Communities

SIRA is embracing hydroponic farming as a sustainable and climate-smart solution to food insecurity in arid and semi-arid regions. By introducing easy to manage kitchen gardens that require minimal space and water, we aim to empower households with year round access to fresh and nutritious food. Through training and community outreach, SIRA is helping families grow healthier foods for improving nutrition, reducing pressure on natural resources and contributing to climate change adaptation one garden at a time.

Water for Peace, Progress and Possibility

SIRA proudly joined the Ministry of Water in launching a transformative borehole drilling initiative aimed at expanding access to clean and safe water in underserved communities. The project sparked visible excitement among male community members who gathered to witness the drilling. Beyond meeting urgent needs for drinking water and livestock, this initiative is fostering peaceful coexistence with neighboring communities by reducing competition over scarce resources. It’s a step toward improved livelihoods, healthier families and a more resilient future for all.
